FAQ: Installation

I bought a registration code. Now how do I get my software?
The purchase confirmation e-mail you receive will include a link to the software download site.
Generally, you will download the TRIAL version of your software, then enter the registration
key you purchased to convert the trial version to registered. From the Arkansoft homepage
you can locate the name of the software you bought. Then go to that software's page and click
the "download trial version" link.
I downloaded my software. Now how do I install it?
Most of our software comes to you in "ZIP" format, which lets us compress several files, such
as program files, user's manuals, etc., into a single file for easy download. These compressed
files must be "unzipped" before you can use them. If your computer cannot automatically unzip
these compressed files when you double-click them, you can download a free decompression
tool such as Stuffit Expander to do the job for you.
Many Arkansoft programs come with a complete installer, or setup file. Just run the setup file
and it will install your software. In other cases, you may receive only the PalmOS program file
(PRC file) and perhaps associated database files (PDB files). You can simply double-click
these files in your computer's file browser to set the files up for installation onto your Palm OS
device at your next HotSync.
I installed the software. Where is it on my device and how do I start it?
On Palm OS devices you may need to set the main menu category selector (in the upper right
corner of the main screen) to "All" in order to locate your new software. It generally installs to
the "Unfiled" category.
On PocketPC devices, look under Start>Programs for your new software.
For Windows software, click the Start button, select Programs, then look for the program group
created for your new software. It's usually placed near the end of the list of programs.
When I start the software, I get an error message about some file not
being found. What’s that all about?
This generally happens on Palm OS devices when you have only installed the program file
(PRC file) but have not installed the associated/required data file(s) (PDB file(s)). Look among
the files you received for one whose name matches the name of the missing data file
described in the error message you received.
