SMARTPHONE BROWSER NOTE:
If you browsed to this page from via your smartphone, we

The Google maps are "zoomable" on your handheld, so you can zoom out
to see the whole area, or zoom in to see a particular street address
and neighborhood.
 You
can download free Google Maps directly from the Internet to your
your smartphone, or you can download to your desktop computer first,
then install to the handheld:

To install directly
from Internet to phone, browse to the
Google Maps smartphone
website using your smartphone's web browser
and download the software directly from the Internet to your
handheld (see sample instructions below).

Or, Palm OS (for
example, Treo) users can
download the
prc file to your desktop then HotSync it to your Palm OS
handheld.
-
Or, Windows Mobile
users can
download the CAB file to your desktop and ActiveSync it to
your Windows Mobile handheld.
Below are sample
step-by-step instructions for installing Google Maps directly from
the Internet to a Treo smartphone:
-
From the web browser
on your handheld, go to
http://www.google.com/gmm
-
When you get there,
tap on "Download Google Maps". Google will automatically sense
the type smartphone you have and download the correct map
reading program to your device.
-
On the Download
screen that appears, set it to download the installer to
Applications (the regular device RAM) or to the SD Card.
-
Then tap [Yes] at
the bottom to do the download page.
-
When download is
done, go to the place where you downloaded the installer (RAM or
Card) and run the program called "Install Maps".
(Note: You only have to do all the above steps once, to
get it set up.)
-
Once the Install
Maps installer runs, go to the standard device main menu and run
the program GoogleMaps.
(This step is all you have to do in the future to access
maps.)
-
Once you run
GoogleMaps, a zoomable map will appear.
-
Drop down the top
menu and select Find Location...
-
Under Location,
enter, for example...
napa, ca
...to search for the map of Napa, California. Then tap [OK] at
the bottom. This will bring up a map of Napa.
GoogleMaps can also
generate directions from where you are to where you are going. Use
the vintner addresses above and Google will tell you how to get
there!
Other options on the
GoogleMaps top menu will let you search for nearby businesses
like restaurants, gasoline stations, and hotels.
