WhiteNoise Features
System Requirements:
On Palm OS handheld computers,
WhiteNoise
requires Palm OS 5.0 or higher.
On ALL handheld computers, in order to use WhiteNoise,
your device
must be
capable of playing sound files.
It helps if your handheld has an
earphone jack.
If you are in a crowded, noisy location such as
on an
airplane, WhiteNoise works best with earphones.
Note: Please install the free
trial version to
check your handheld for compatibility before
purchasing
a registration key.

- Easy as 1-2-3!
- Set how long you want the
sound to play.
- Set the volume level.
- Pick the sound you want
to listen to.
- Plays any of six restful sounds continuously
for a long as you wish:
- Waterfall
- Babbling Brook (creek)
- Roaring River (rapids)
- Gentle Rainfall
- Summer Woods (crickets)
- Heartbeat mixed with
white noise (for helping a baby sleep)
- Ten different volume settings. Use lower
levels when you're using earphones. Use higher levels if the
handheld is using its built-in speaker when placed on a bedside
table, and you need to drown out noisy neighbors.
- Since WhiteNoise can run while your
handheld's screen is turned off, it uses very little battery power.
If you start with a fully-charged battery or plug your handheld into
its charger, the sound can run for hours.
- Optionally, have it sound an alarm at the end
of your selected duration to wake you up.
- No need to enter any text. All setup is done
just by tapping your choices on the touch screen.
- Plenty of built-in help information available
(but you probably won't need it).
- The screen is intentionally dark and subdued,
so it's easy on your eyes if you enter your sound settings in a dark
room.
- Test mode lets you hear your sound briefly to
help with setting ideal volume.

What is white noise?
Research shows that people sleep more soundly
and restfully in a room with a soothing, steady background sound,
such as the hum of a fan motor, rainfall, or running water. This
constant, unchanging sound, called "white noise", is sometimes used
in the field of architectural acoustics, where, in order to mask
distracting, undesirable noises in interior spaces, a constant low
level of white noise is generated.
White noise, playing at low levels, can be very effective as a sleep
aid. An individual handheld user can benefit by wearing earphones
while using WhiteNoise, or when sleeping in bed, unplug the
earphones, place the handheld on a bed-side table, and adjust the
playback level to whatever sounds right for you. Generally, low
levels, from Level 2 to Level 4, work well. Higher levels may be
needed to overcome loud external noise sources.
CAUTION: Sound levels above mid-range
could cause hearing damage, especially when using ear phones. Use
common sense!
